It is common to see both jet-type
fire water cannon systems and spray-type automatic jet fire extinguishing systems in fire engineering drawings. Since both are fully automatic fire extinguishing systems, which one is more economical?

From the perspective of installation quantity:
The protection radius of a commonly used 5L/S jet-type fire water cannon is 30 meters; while the protection radius of a 5L/S spray-type automatic jet fire extinguishing system is 6 meters. Theoretically, the protection area of one 5L water cannon is 2826㎡; the protection area of one sprinkler head is 113㎡. In the same scenario, the jet-type fire water cannon system uses fewer units.
From the perspective of system flow:
The system flow of the jet-type fire water cannon is calculated based on the flow of 2 units spraying water simultaneously; if a factory uses 30L/S water cannons, the system flow is 60L/S, which is 216m³/h.
The flow of the spray-type automatic jet fire extinguishing system is calculated based on a group of sprinkler heads spraying water simultaneously; according to specifications, the number of sprinkler heads opened simultaneously in a medium-risk factory is at least 6, and the system flow is 30L/S, which is 108m³/h;
The spray-type automatic jet fire extinguishing system is more economical in water usage.
From the perspective of installation cycle and labor:
The jet-type fire water cannon system uses fewer units, and the installation can be completed only by connecting branch pipes, butting flanges, and wiring; the installation cycle is short, and the labor cost is low;
The spray-type automatic jet fire extinguishing system has a small protection radius, requires more pipes to be connected, has more interfaces, has a longer installation cycle, and has higher labor costs.
From this perspective, the jet-type fire water cannon is more economical.
From the perspective of system supporting facilities:
The jet-type fire water cannon requires a larger flow rate and a higher rated pressure. Commonly used fire water cannons require a pressure of 0.6MPa, and the corresponding water pump head is higher; while the rated pressure of the spray-type automatic jet fire extinguishing system is 0.25MPa, the pressure is low, and the water pump head is small.
